DIABETIC FOOT CARE

People with diabetes can develop many different foot problems. With high blood glucose levels, even ordinary problems can get worse leading to serious complications. Mostly, diabetics suffer from foot problems due to neuropathy (nerve damage) which may result into tingling, pain, burning, stinging, loss of or reduced sensations or weakness in the foot. Loss of feeling in the foot can result in stepping on some sharp object causing injury without the person realising, and this can result in infections which if not noted on time can lead to complications as severe as gangrene. Compromised blood supply along with lack of sensation due to neuropathy, predisposes a diabetic to several foot complications like ulcerations, infections, Athlete's Feet, skin infections, Fungal infections of the nail, calluses, corns, blisters, bunion, ingrown toe nails, plantar warts and neuropathic osteoarthropathy. The incidence of people with diabetes to have a foot or leg amputated is much higher than other people.

BURN CARE

The skin has an important role to play in the fluid and temperature regulation of the body. If enough skin area is injured, the ability to maintain that control can be lost. The skin also acts as a protective barrier against the bacteria and viruses that inhabit the world outside the body. The anatomy of the skin is complex, and there are many structures within the layers of the skin. There are three layers: Epidermis, the outer layer of the skin Dermis, made up of collagen and elastic fibers and where nerves, blood vessels, sweat glands, and hair follicles reside. Hypodermis or subcutaneous tissue, where larger blood vessels and nerves are located. This is the layer of tissue that is most important in temperature regulation. The amount of damage that a burn can cause depends upon the type of burn, its location, its depth, and how much body surface area that it involves.
